Travelling up to Scotland is always a treat for a wedding. This wedding deep in East Lothian was no exception. I spent the first part of the morning taking in the setting, photographing the garden and the marquee. The marquee was positioned in the garden with the rolling hills of East Lothian behind. Not a building could be seen for miles, a truly tranquil setting for a summer wedding. The florists had been in early to lay out the hundreds of dahlias along the tables and put together the stunning flower crowns that dripped festoon light bulbs above the tables and dance floor. It looked magical.
Louisa got married with just her mum and best friend to help her set in a beautiful light filled room over looking the marquee. The hair dresser carefully secured the stunning tiara which was a family heirloom in Louisa head and together her mum and friend helped Louisa into her beautiful wedding dress by Caroline Castigliano. Final details were added and Louisa was ready to meet her father and head to the church.
Guests had been welcomed by a bagpiper and filled the church with chatter and colour. Guests wore a mixture of morning suits and hats, but being a summer wedding they had optimised on colour and there was not a dull dress to be seen. Louisa was met by a gaggle of best friends who escorted her down the aisle to meet Hugo who i believe may have been fighting back a tear or two. A triumphant exit to a deluge of confetti and straight into the waiting car and off to the reception where the drinks were eagerly waiting.
Hugo, Louisa and took a moment while guests loaded themselves into cars to head off round the loch for some photos. The setting could not have been more idillic! water, a pontoon, rowing boat, all framed perfectly by reeds and rushes. I grabbed a handful of stunning, intimate and beautiful couple photos letting Louisa and Hugo relax and have a moment to chat and comment on the service and who they had seen. They walked back round the loch framed by the hills ready to meet the piper who walked them up to their guests who were extremely excited to welcome their bride and groom.
The afternoon was taken up with sipping champagne, speeches outside which is always a plus for us photographers followed by a reel or two before being asked to take their seats for dinner. The tables were a feast for the eyes. Lines of candles, dahlias and foliage filled the tables while greenery dripped from the ceiling along with festoon lightbulbs. It was like taken a seat at a midsummer feast I almost expected the serving staff to appear dressed as fairies.
The 29 Fingers had arrived and were already getting the tartan skirts on and chatting about which wig would come out, who was going to entertain on the dance floor and which song would they get everyone on the ground for! They never fail to keep the whole dance floor alive and pumping all night. It was not long until ties were round heads and Hugo and Louisa had been grabbed, lifted on to shoulders and paraded round the dance floor. Midnight arrived and with a hive of excitement the guests were ushered outside to enjoy a spectacular display of fireworks which lit up the loch and hills in the background. Once the Woos and Ahhs had come to a close everyone scuttled back inside to return to the dance floor.
By 2pm numbers were dwindling but the dance floor was still alive. Aunties Uncles and parents friends had all called it a night and it was only the those left on the dance floor who swayed their way outside to wave Louisa and Hugo away with a few sparklers in hand. The process of trying to form an archway or 2 lines was a concept far too difficult by this stage of the night, so they left waving to a wall of sparkles into the night.
