Ben & Nicola Winter wedding at The Bel and Dragon

Ben and Nicola had their wedding on 15th December in St Laurence Church in Reading and then on to The Bel and Dragon for the reception.  For so many of us the expectation of a winter wedding can fill us with a few nerves! But a winter wedding does bring all sorts of things that create great atmosphere.  Rooms are filled with candles, fairy lights, sparklers all creating great opportunities for lots of photos full of atmosphere and giving some great opportunities to be creative with flash and lighting.  Ben and Nicolas wedding was one such wedding and it certainly kept me on my toes. They had decorated the Church with huge white and see through helium balloons that lined the aisle and wrapped every pillar in fairy lights which created a beautiful warm feel in the church.  The church was packed with their friends and supporters who were all given champagne and cake while Ben and Nicola along with their families braved the wind and rain for some family photos under umbrellas.

After a good amount of champagne and cake Ben and Nicola led the way to The Bel and Dragon under a tunnel of confetti through the church, and it was simply too cold and wet to face the outside.  The Bel and Dragon welcomed guest with warm cocktails and mulled wine which were very gratefully received by all. I took Ben and Nicola into the dinning area quickly before it was taken over by guests.  We managed to get some wonderful images of the two of them surrounded my their beautiful tables and decorations.  The Bel and Dragon is normally a restaurant open to the public and it is made up of cosy booths for 4 people, and they had arranged 2 long tables down the centre of the restaurant.

The guests sat down to a 3 course meal, speeches which created much laughter and enjoyment.  They were then moved to the the bar for Expresso Martini cocktails and to enjoy the roaring fire.  Once the tables were moved the DJ fired up and got everyone dancing amongst gallons of dry ice!! Ben, Nicola and took a moment away from all he dancing and fun to grab some late night photos of the two of them outside.  A massive thank you goes out to Ben and Nicola for being so brave and facing the cold, but we got some wonderful creative and quirky photos.  I love it when a couple need no directions and just seem to know what to do.  It is a wonderful thing when they manage to forget about the camera and just enjoy themselves.

The dancing carried on until the wonderful ushers managed to get everyone outside to send Ben and Nicola on their way through a tunnel of sparklers.  This is always the best way to finish a wedding and be sent off by your friends and family.

Thank you Ben and Nicola your wedding was so much fun in a truly wonderful venue. You were totally inspired to think out of the box and choose The Bel and Dragon as your venue.

Lovely Words

As a bride I personally felt more comfortable in the presence of a female photographer and when we met Alice at a wedding fair, she was far less showy than other photographers and took the time to get to know us. I respected her work and found her price to be more competitive than some of the other photographers we looked at. She also seemed very enthusiastic about her career and genuinely excited to be photographing our wedding. She even sent us a Christmas card in the run up which was a really nice touch!
